Covid 19 arrives in Scotland as British Summertime clocks in !
Scotland part of a global pandemic ? Full lockdown ? we didn’t think it would happen did we or did you ? Was it the bats or the pangolins ? Did it start in Wuhan wild animal trade cages ? Was it the Russians or maybe it was Greta that started it all !? I mean we will never truly know and quite frankly does it actually matter to you anymore ?
The WORLD was dealing with a climate changing crisis, a nature crisis, and now a human health crisis and Donal Dump cannot get his usual bronzer on Amazon so he opts to buy up the world’s supply of wotsits to kind of y’know just inject them into the light of his ? Wtf? Podium plonker!
We were rationed thanks to the panicky big poopers, did you learn to make bread ? Could you find baking powder anywhere ? Pasta – ha – good luck finding that in any variation apart from gluten free and organic chickpea.
Did you find a new routine at all at any point ? Learn Yoga and meditation, read those books ? learn a new language, perhaps carve an ice sculpture in your need of a defrost freezer ?
Who ate breakfast for lunch and how many days could you go without washing your hair ? Did you make a cuppa and sit on zoom chatting to your nearest and dearest whilst analysing your poorly groomed eyebrows, and did you actually use the talking machine called the telephone ? Family zoom quiz night anyone? Christmas shopping done and wrapped up – oh f… off !
Bad dreams ? Can’t sleep ? Too much Reporting Scotland. We watched Nicola every day, every day !! That woman turns up every day and reports the statistics – did you hear anything other than how many more humans had died. Were you the neighbour who blew your bagpipes on a Thursday night or did you clap and cry whilst your heart was bursting with pride for our wonderful NHS devoted above and beyond teams. Did you batter a spoon off your non stick pot for all those sectors of essential workers who
were risking their very own lives when the virus was latching and laying its invisible layer and waiting for its very next host.
Or maybe you were just running after the fish van who never stopped in your street !?
Some humans were fly-tipping all the stuff they never needed anyway, some made a fire every other week from their garden waste, enjoying that scent as well as the incredible perfumes from their garden shrubbery and flowers. Birds and bees in chorus. Others queued at Tesco in the glorious sunshine absorbing the Vitamin D unsure what to do in the store, gel my hands after I put the gloves on, no gloves just a mask, or none of that – lets see what happens – bring it on and let’s get it over and done with so I can have the antibodies and get back to work.
Some had a loop walk every day to stop them feeling like a looney. Looney loop they called it.
Some carried on having their life saving chemo, some wrote letters, a lot googled how to home-school whilst most didn’t need to. Some attended funerals of their own children, some were not permitted. Others were supporting those the only way they could whilst awaiting a call to say there was a bed in the detox ward. . Some bought hair dye from India and Waitrose. Some were rewarded by the karma of lowest fuel costs as they drove their cars all over volunteering and delivering from food banks to Killearn to Raploch.
The WAVE came in slow motion, time lapse down the hallway ….. washed me up a few times, I didn’t drown, I learned to surf, surf to my feet and cough out whatever came up.
Sometimes I just sat with it, snorkelling in anxiety.
Gratitude to the Universe who sent those long days of sunshine to help the humans get through, the mothership on time gave us the Peony moon as we walked and cycled in the middle of the roads ….. because we could. Music and dance, preening the tomato plants, hugging animals, painting tumbled stones collected from the burn with the kids while praying for those suffering still and grieving already and taken too soon and unnecessarily.
In it together they said, we are never apart from those we are connected to, we can be alone but choose to never feel lonely, breathe deeply and swim if you can, or maybe learn to.
Surf or sink … Big fish or little fish – doesn’t matter in the end … well only when you have to book your time slot for picking up the supper !
The accelerator pedal is now very much back in business as are the car salesmen and the social workers who never brake.
Be safe, give your hands a good wash and don’t spit to strangers!
Winter is coming soon and so is the common flu and the cold virus.
The generations to come had better know how to swim, learn to build boats fast like the Vikings, and learn to fish too, there’ll be nae wild salmon left mind you !
Forever grateful I live on the top floor
Hello !
How are you ? Seriously, how are you ? I do hope I gave you a wee laugh reading the above and I hope you are enjoying this incredibly warm and sunny July so far ?
Can you believe it ?…..
The Hair Boutique reopened exactly a year ago this week after 16 weeks of lockdown.
Followed by another 3 weeks of lockdown in DECEMBER ! AAAAhhhh ! Then another lockdown from boxing day until April 5th 2021.
We made it through and here we all are charting our own course again.
I want to thank you personally for your loyalty, supporting and respecting myself and my business by showing up for your appointment on time, sanitising your hands and wearing your face covering every time you visit my workspace within The Hair Boutique. I am so grateful to be in a space which is meticulously run, cleaned and cared for by Karlyn who owns the salon. The room is so well ventilated, bright and zen for us.
What a year it has been for everyone, I shan’t dwell … it’s all been said already however ….
As most of the world is coming to terms with the new normal my thoughts and heart are with so so many but especially so with the most vulnerable in India. I have visited the North of India for a short time only in September 2017 and I know in my heart I will return, however this time most likely the South. I have seen with my own eyes, the street kids, one more desperate than the other, one pulling a better trick than the other, surviving any way they can, fiercely competing with each other over their pick of the tourists.
So from August onwards I invite you to experience my Indian Head Massage treatment. I ask you only to give a little of your time to me & pay what you can. All payments will be collected and donated directly to www.mtorphanage.org
Mother Teresa’s motivations were clear, dedicating her life with her humanitarian efforts included setting up soup kitchens, a leper colony, orphanages, and a home for the dying destitute. She treated, educated and fed the homeless like her own family.
A trusted client of the salon has a sister & brother in law Lillian & Dave, who live in Quepem, a town in South Goa, so rest assured our donations will go direct to the source. Our donations are never given to the orphanage in cash, only given in whatever the children are needing that week/month, so whether it is clothes, pencils, study books and of course foods, whatever the kitchen/house is running low on and they need help with.
As I am sure you all are aware too, some of the most skilled surgeons, doctors and nurses who work tirelessly in our hospitals have been born & grew up in India before they have come to the UK to study and graduate. The UK has an estimated 60,000 doctors of Indian origin working within the NHS, often referred to as the backbone of the country’s health service.
When I was on my flight from Delhi back to London I chatted with a lovely man who was visiting his son in Dundee. His son had graduated that Summer as a doctor and he had me almost in tears as he was gushing and was so proud of him.
I have attached photos below that Lillian has sent to me recently, scroll down to view.
Thank you for reading, please help me spread the word
Warmest regards
Love & gratitude
